ABOUT
Rockrose Cottage was purchased by us in February 2022; at that time it was called Skylark. Since then, we have continued to refurbish the property to our liking and to give it a fresher look.
Brixham is Mike's hometown. Many generations of his family lived there and some buried in one of the local graveyards! Over the years, as a family, we'd visit Brixham often several times a year for a cheap holiday staying with Mike's parents. Sadly, that option is no longer possible so, after a brief period of using holiday lets, we looked for somewhere to purchase within our budget without actually moving there permanently. The property at Landscove provided the best option with free parking, easy access to local amenities - both domestic and recreational - and no grass to cut! Our "Home by the Sea" was born and now provides a welcome retreat for not only us, but for friends and family.
Why Rockrose Cottage?
We had a lot of discussion about what to call the cottage. We wanted something that represented the area or something associated with it. It was previously called Skylark but sadly, these are seldom seen or heard nearby these days. All of our early thoughts for a name had already been taken either locally or elsewhere and some, although relevant to the area, were just not very appealing or meaningless unless you were a better than average birdwatcher! Then it came to us...
The White Rockrose, Helianthemum appenium. Berry Head is one a few sites in Britain where it occurs and it is considered a local rarity. It is a small plant with a pretty, delicate flower typically adorning the south side of the headland. Look out for it in May and June when it is in flower.
